New iPhone releases are always highly anticipated, creating massive waiting lines at Apple stores around the world. Apple geeks all want to be one of the first to have the newest awe-inspiring release from the tech giant. But I wonder – was the newest release a ground-breaking technological advancement, or a check mark for releasing another phone?
Let’s review the highlights.
It’s thinner and big (and even bigger). I’m all for thin. And I understand the desire to create a large screen phone to compete with the existing gargantuan phones made by Samsung and others. I, however, have no desire to carry around an iPad to make calls on. But, I guess you can make the argument that with this phone, the need to carry two devices (a phone and a tablet) has been eliminated. Hmm.
Ok, what else. As with each release, it’s a little more powerful, and the screen resolution has been improved. The camera has been updated to record 1080p HD video. With my phone being the only video camera I use, that’s helpful.
Facetime is now HD. Ok, I like this one. Maybe I will actually put the camera on my face versus a wall (or anything else OTHER than my face!). If you have ever used Facetime, you know what I mean. These improvements on the forward facing camera also mean better quality selfies. I’ve never been one for selfies, but maybe I will launch into a Kardashian-esque selfie queen?
Faster wireless. Awesome.
Touch ID. Is this new? I’m pretty sure my iPhone 5 has this feature.
Apple Pay. This one is interesting. It will definitely improve convenience. That is if your bank/credit card company is accepted by the system, and you are at a store with contactless payment.
All of these new features are nice. But I personally don’t see it as an immediate must-have. When it’s time for a new phone, I will upgrade. But I won’t be standing in any lines for this pocket pal. Let’s face it though. Apple is not only a tech giant, but a marketing genius. Once people make it to the register and purchase the BRAND. NEW. iPHONE., they will fall right back in line to await the iPhone 7.
What do you think?
